Free Resource: How to stickK to Your Commitments and Goals

We just found a super cool (and free) website/service that increases your accountability to your goals and commitments by allowing you to put a “contract” on yourself.

The website is www.stickK.com and it is free to use.

You make a “Commitment Contract” with yourself and set the stakes as to what happens when you miss a check-in or your goal.

The Commitment Contract concept is based on two well known principles of behavioral economics:

1.  People don’t always do what they claim they want to do, and
2.  Incentives get people to do things

Here is how it works:

1 – Go to www.stickK.com and Set Your Goal
On their website, select the category and write a description of the goal you are committed to as well as how many times you will update your progress.

2 – Set the Stakes (this is where it gets interesting!!)
Select how much money you are willing to bet on yourself. If you do not fulfill your commitment, your money will be given to either:

     – a charity of your choice
     – a friend or foe
     – an “anti-charity” of your choice (which means a charity you don’t support will get your money – added
incentive to make sure you hit your goal!!)

You will be billed $XX for any reporting period if:

     – You report that you were unsuccessful; or
     – Your Referee (explained in next step) reports that you were unsuccessful; or
     – You fail to make a required report by the end of the second day (11:59 P.M.) following a required
        reporting day.

You can also choose to have no money at stake.

3 – Pick a Referee
Your referee will verify your progress. This person will report each week and determine your success or failure. You can also choose yourself as a referee and work on the honor system.

4 – Get Support
If you would like an added layer of accountability, you can enter the emails of your co-workers, friends and family who will be notified of your progress. You supporters will also be allowed to post messages for support.

5 – Get Working on Your Goal!!!!

StickK will send you weekly email reminders when reporting periods are coming up, so your goal will be in front of you and you will remember to report your progress.

Their website also has community pages where you can interact with other people that have the same goal as you and access free resources related to your commitment.

Are you ready to finally stickK to your commitments?

Well, what´s stopping you? www.stickK.com is:

     – 100% free
     – Simple to start
     – Fun to do
     – Increases success rates

  3. Pretty cool – I just completed my first commitment, sort of a test run, start with something small due at the end of the week. No money on the line with this one, but hey, I’m 1 for 1. I already have a second contract going with a hundred bucks riding on this one. Putting money into the mix definitely ups the ante. I like it…

  5. Just became a supporter of Eric! I heard about a guy who made a site like this, but the only option was to fund his personal private jet if you didn’t hit your goal (like #3 above). Pretty interesting!
