How to Memorize a Calendar

Leah SimpsonThis is one of my favorite applications of memory training. I can’t claim creating it myself, but it is an amazing technique to memorize the calendar.

That’s right, memorize the calendar. You want me to go to a baseball game with you on June 10th? Sorry, the 10th is a Tuesday, and I have Bible study on Tuesdays.Would you like to be able to do that? I am going to explain how. Use this opportunity to file away the calendar for 2008 or any year. Here we go!

First you need a picture for every month. Many months are pretty simple, but use whatever works for you. Go through the year, and pick an image for every month. Remember, any picture works as long as you create it. Here are Read More...

Believe and You Can Achieve

Blaine HalversonAs a speaker, I often hear people express their disbelief in developing new skills or achieving some goal. It happens for two reasons:

1. Either the person doesn’t believe something is possible or
2. They don’t believe they can do it.

In this blog post I want to dispel these two self doubting trains of thought and introduce two new ways of approaching these issues to that you can achieve your dreams, no matter how big they are.

Believe it is Possible

At times in history, common sense Read More...

Instant Attitude Boost

Roger SeipI have done many informal surveys with people about whether their attitude is a talent or a skill.

Talent being something that you are either born with or not; either you have it or you do not. Skill is something that you will learn through conscious efforts.

Sometimes people have a tendency to argue with me about this and say that their attitude is a talent, but when I ask them the question, are there things that you can proactively consciously do to improve your attitude and they answer always is, yes!

Most people are not aware of this or aware of the tools that they have to improve their attitudes. We discuss many of these attitude management tools in our Read More...

Best Business Writing Layout Tips

Ken BudkaThe purpose of following these guidelines for your business writing is to get the reader to read your document. You want your document to be pleasing to the eye and not overwhelming.

The first area that I would like to address is the usual white space. The white space is simply the amount of paper that you see as opposed to the amount of text you see on the paper. A good test to see how much white space is used is to ‘print preview’ the document and set the percentage to about 25% or so. In other words, you will see the document on the screen but you won’t be able to read the words. This way, you will get a good feel for how much black there is against the white. Read More...

Coaching Yourself

David DenisIf you are in sales, you absolutely can take control of your selling career. You can motivate yourself, create a system, and track your numbers. Once you have those numbers, you can use them to coach yourself.

Coaching has two parts. First you diagnose your condition. Second you prescribe your treatment.

The danger in being your own doctor, of course, is that you can get caught up in the emotions of it. To prevent this from happening focus on your numbers.

Numbers don’t lie and they don’t fudge. They are what they are, and if you have the mental toughness to look at them truthfully and without spin, you will be able to determine what challenges you Read More...

Take Care of Yourself Before You Take Care of Your Customer

Eric PlantenbergOne of the most important questions people ask when they are focused on improving their quantity and quality of business is: “What is my competitive advantage? What makes me unique, memorable, special… what truly sets me apart from the rest?”

While there are no definitively right answers to that question, most people come to some conclusion that customer service is a critical component of your competitive advantage. For most businesses, the service they offer can vary from exceptional to not so hot, depending upon circumstances.

Why is that? Why does the same company, and even the same people within that company provide world class service some of the time, and Read More...

How to Remember Where You Parked Your Car

Leah SimpsonAt our memory training workshops, we consistently hear from people that they have challenges remembering where they parked their car. Believe it or not, even me, the memory trainer, would walk out of the store and have no idea where my car was. I once almost called security once to report it stolen! That’s when I decided I needed a system.

So here is my system for remembering where I parked my car. There are two types of situations here.

1. Sometimes you park in a garage or a lot that has letters and numbers. Oh, that makes it so easy – well, Read More...
