Book Review – The One Thing You Need To Know

Leah SimpsonMarcus Buckingham’s latest book, The One Thing You Need to Know: About Great Managing, Great Leading, and Sustained Individual Success, is a fabulous insight into the nuances of succeeding in leadership, management, and individual efforts.

As my husband said, the “one” thing is pretty long if it takes him 280 pages to talk about it! Really, Buckingham suggests, quite convincingly, that management, leadership, and individual efforts each have a different, over-arching principle that breeds success in its respective area.

He then discusses each principle by using current and familiar case studies, which reveal action steps for improvement. I saw my own strengths and weaknesses in a new light, and I was excited to have simple actions and ideas of where to focus to be a better leader, a more effective manager, and to experience even greater personal improvement.

You should read it…..well, as long as you would like to improve your leadership, management, or life.
