Contest – Best Response to “How Are You Doing?”
Recently I had a discussion with some business leaders regarding our language and how it affects our state of mind and attitude. Specifically, we talked about the answer to the most common question in America, “How are you doing?” The typical response, “Fine. How are you?” doesn’t do much to boost our attitude or outlook on our day.
We started brainstorming alternative and positive answers such as:
“Terrific!” ~ “I am unbelievable” ~ “If I was doing any better I’d be twins” ~ “If I was doing any better, vitamins would be taking ME!” (my personal all time favorite)
Here is my challenge to you: I want to know YOUR best response to the questions “How are you doing?” Post your answers below. I will review all of the submission and choose the winners on Thursday, March 27, 2008.
Here are the prizes:
First Place – Freedom Personal Development hooded sweatshirt
Second Place – Freedom Personal Development water bottle
Third Place – Freedom Personal Development mouse pad
Winners will be contacted by email and the winning submissions will be posted on the blog March 27. Bonus points given if you actually start USING your response!

You want to know more about the other person before you tell them anything about yourself. I am a 22 year old product brokerage owner, and I only want to help others succeed. Generally, 97% of people fail in their businesses because they focus on the point of teaching people. The solution: Ask questions. Find out what is being looked for.
Hi, How are you doing?
Depends on how you’re doing. (Compliment- Nice boots by the way.)

1. Great, now that I know you are on the job (always gets a smile…).
2. Physically and emotionally exhausted, but not complaining. (sometimes gets a smile).
and the third is actually an answer to a variant of the question.
“How do you feel”…
3. with my hands

I’m broke but I’m happy, I’m poor but I’m kind
I’m short but I’m healthy, yeah
I’m high but I’m grounded, I’m sane but I’m overwhelmed
I’m lost but I’m hopeful, baby
What it all comes down to
Is that everything’s gonna be fine, fine, fine
‘Cause I’ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five
I feel drunk but I’m sober, I’m young and I’m underpaid
I’m tired but I’m working, yeah
I care but I’m restless, I’m here but I’m really gone
I’m wrong and I’m sorry baby
What it all comes down to
Is that everything is going to be quite alright
‘Cause I’ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flicking a cigarette
What it all comes down to
Is that I haven’t got it all figured out just yet
‘Cause I’ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a peace sign
I’m free but I’m focused, I’m green but I’m wise
I’m hard but I’m friendly, baby
I’m sad but I’m laughing, I’m brave but I’m chicken shit
I’m sick but I’m pretty baby
And what it all boils down to
Is that no one’s really got it figured out just yet
I’ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is playing the piano
And what it all comes down to, my friends, yeah
Is that everything is just fine fine fine
I’ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is hailing a taxi cab. From “Hand in my pocket” … Alannis Morrisette
