Contest – What Do You Say to Start Your Day?
Nido Qubein taught me that there are fundamentally two kinds of people. There are those who wake up and say “Ooooh, good morning God!” Then there are those who say “Oh, good god…morning.” Which are you?
During the day, there are 2 times that your brain is most receptive to “programming”. One of these times is as soon as you wake up (the other is before you go to bed.)
Whether it is conscious or unconscious, the first few thoughts you have when you wake up will set the tone for the rest of your day. Spoken out loud they can be even more powerful.
So, how do you start your day? Do you say something positive (either to yourself or out loud) or are you grumbling about having to get up?
The question for this month’s contest is:
What 3 things do you say when you wake up?
To enter, type your name, email and answer to the question below.
If you are not sure, or want some great suggestions, check out these videos:
Morning Pep Talk from a Little Girl

3. “Keep learning and developing those written communication skills.” – I recently changed careers due to a lay off and I’m outside my comfort zone. I’m dedicated to improving my writing skills so that I will be a more effective communicator. This dedication will not only help me with my job, but for everyday life, in general.

First thing I do in the morning is go to the fridge, open my Diet Rock Star (its my coffee), turn on music and think, who will I meet, influence or just get a smile from today.
Look at the blackberry emails and say to myself, I’m off and running for a busy great day (I love my job).
Go outside, feed my dogs, look at my flowers and garden and thank God for what he has provided and a great life.
Back inside to see what I will wear to work, I say to myself, what will show confidence and strength for me today. I allways believe that you will have more confidence and it will show in your personality if you feel professional in your cloths

When I get up in the morning and as I am getting ready for work – I say the following things:
As I am getting up and going to shower:
“Thank you God for the breath of life today. I put this day in your hands; do with it what you will.”
As I am driving to work (30 minute drive):
“Lord, please keep me safe in my travels and free from trouble.”
As I am walking into the building at work:
“It’s going to be a great day!” with a long deep breath and a smile…

I have a list of affirmations I say every morning, but here are my top 3:
1. I will live the gift of today to the fullest because I am grateful to be alive and to be me. I am free to be myself. I am present in the moment and each moment is perfect – exactly the way it is. Everything and anything is possible with God today.
2. I constantly feel that God and His Universe are caring for me and making things line up perfectly.
3. Thank you God for this life – I cannot wait to see what you have planned for me.
Comment by Katie Brandt — June 7, 2010 @ 7:02 am
1) Thank you God for a beautiful day. Even if it’s raining it’s a good day because I won’t have to water. I’ll catch some rain water for the inside flowers.
2) Thank you God for the part of the country that I live in. I’m home with family and that was not always the case.
3) This is going to be a day that I help someone, somehow, with some thing that they need.
Comment by Brenda — June 7, 2010 @ 8:05 am
I love this question and the article that has spurred the question on. I have been conditioned from years of selling books during my college years to wake up and say:
“It’s going to be a great day”.
Seems so basic, but it is amazing how often the day ends up being a great one. Another thing I add from time to time when I need to put some extra energy into my day is:
“I am alert, alive, friendly, cordial, firm and enthuuuusiastic! I am ready to face the day with vim, vigor and vivacity!”
Comment by David Shoup — June 7, 2010 @ 1:07 pm
1. I thank the Lord for the beautiful day He has provided, and the night’s rest.
2. Thank Him for my family.

1) I will win! Because I have faith, courage and enthusiassm!
2) Today I will meet the right people in the right place at the right time for the betterment of all!
3) I see opportunity in every challenge!
Comment by Chad Montgomery — June 10, 2010 @ 8:22 am
My first thought of the day is always “no I can’t do this again!”. But it is my second thought that always gets me going. My second thought is that life is a GIFT from God. I am thinking of situations instead of the whole picture. But the situations are only steps in a future that He already has planned…a means to an end. I am not appreciating life if I am not accepting all the things that come with it. So as crazy as it seems, I have to have the negative thought first to bring me to appreciate why I can and will do it again!
Comment by Daria Moore — June 10, 2010 @ 9:07 am
I just ask God to watch over everything I do & say to bless Him that I may bless those I come in contain with.
I will stay positive no matter what is going on negative is not to entry me at all.
May I touch someones life today to make a difference, I maybe the only bible someone will read.

I do this before I even get out of bed, before my feet hit the floor, I thank my bed for being so comfortable and allowing me to sleep in it, I thank my blanket for keeping me warm and cozy. Comment by Barbara Burkard — June 16, 2010 @ 3:07 pm
Good, better, best: never let it rest, ‘til your good it better and your better best.
If it is the weekend and I need to relax, I remind myself by saying: “No post on Sundays.”
When I am tackling a big project, I start the day telling myself to break it down in steps. For example, when I am writing a book, I say “A page a day is the key to success.”
