Graceful Transitions

Have you found yourself recently or presently in a state of transition? This could look like many things. For example, you might be in the transition of becoming a parent, moving to a new place, transitioning out of the work force, changing jobs, getting promoted, (insert your own here.) This transition could be easy or difficult, good or bad, who knows? Typically change is tough for most people, even if it is leading to a positive end state.

So how can you make your transition as graceful as possible?

For an answer, let’s look to yoga. I have been practicing yoga for 13 years now. There are many concepts and experiences of my practice that I take off the yoga mat and into Read More...

Top 10 Things to Think About If You Want to Change the World

Filed under: Personal Freedom, Top 10 Lists — Tags: , , — Freedom Personal Development @ 6:00 am

What change can we effect? What’s the difference we want to make in the world?

Mahatma Gandhi believed that we must be the change we want to see in the world. Here are some things to think about how to do just that …

1. Know that all significant change throughout history has occurred because of the courage and commitment of individuals.
Not because of nations, armies, governments and certainly not committees decided on change. People like Joan of Ark, Albert Einstein, Clara Barton, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison and Rosa Parks. They might not have done it alone, but they were, Read More...

To Exist is to Change

Leah SimpsonSpring is in the air and the flowers are getting ready to burst into bloom. This time of year reminds me of a quote:

To exist is to change, to change is to mature, and to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.

Think about the analogy of a flower’s bloom in regards to this quote.

Anything that is alive, including ourselves, cannot exist without changing. Life means changing. Like a flower that is growing, we appreciate the growing and changing plant as it matures and blooms.

Sometimes, when change is happening to us, such as a new job, a workout routine, a healthier diet, or learning a new skill, it can be painful, but Read More...

Happy Fall – Be Aware of Your Internal Changes of Season

Tom WeberFall is here and the leaves are changing colors, the weather is getting cooler and football season is in full swing. This natural change in the seasons is an important reminder of the internal seasons we go through in our personal and professional lives.

We have our own spring, summer, fall, and winter rhythms happening constantly. This correlates with the natural times where we must sow seeds, wait for them to grow, and then harvest. And I’m not talking about your garden; this could be with relationships, sales, raising children, or improving yourself.

Many times we feel frustration because we are not harvesting all the time. Society tells us over and over that if we are not producing or harvesting, Read More...

How to Plan and Adapt for Change

Leah SimpsonAs I was planning this article, I read the following quote from an ancient Chinese warrior in one of my client’s offices,

“Those who are victorious plan effectively and change decisively. They are like a great river that maintains its course but adjusts its flow…they have form but are formless. They are skilled in both planning and adapting.” So although I am not the first to notice the fantastic analogy provided by a running river, I feel the lesson we can all learn is as pertinent today as it was in 100 BC.

We CAN learn from what occurs around us in nature to navigate changes in life, but still get to our desired result.

  1. Know Your Desired Result

The Winning Edge Theory – How Small Changes = Big Results

Our focus for today is the Winning Edge Theory. This is the idea that very small changes in your actions and/or attitude made over a period of time will create huge changes in your results.

All of us at some point have not been satisfied with our results and decided to do something about it. Usually, we decide that it is time to turnover a new leaf. So we commit to ourselves that tomorrow I am going to quit smoking or read that sales book or I will make 25 more phone calls and so forth. What happens though, is we follow through for a couple of days and then we get sidetracked or too busy and the plan falls apart.

When this happens, we have set ourselves up to fail. The changes were too big Read More...

Your Patterns and Default Setting

In the coaching relationships I have with our clients, the major problem I see is that individuals end up in the same place – over and over and over again. They mean to save money and build wealth, only to end up (again) with “too much month at the end of the money.” They’ve lost the same 15 pounds 8 times in the last decade. They quit one job only to end up doing the exact same job with the exact same pay for a different company. They end a relationship and then start dating the same person with a different name. Sound familiar? Everyone has patterns and they are determined by what we refer to as the “default setting”.

The “default setting” Read More...

The Only Thing Constant is Change

“The only thing constant is change.” I heard that for the first time while watching the Broadway production of Jekyll and Hyde when I was in my early twenties. I’ve always remembered it because it struck me as one of the most simple, yet profound, statements I’d ever heard.

Everything, everyone, everywhere will always change. We are wise to accept this because it is an inevitable part of life. Yet, humans resist change more often than not. Why is this? It’s the one of the only things we can truly count on. But with change comes uncertainty……the unknown….the unfamiliar. This is why it can also be uncomfortable. It can be like Read More...

As a natural part of our evolution, we are faced with constant changes. In addition to our biology, the world around us is also changing offering a wealth of opportunities and choices.

I am going to tell you how you can improve the quality of your life by paying attention to and changing the words you use. If you have heard of the Law of Attraction, then you probably understand that people attract what they think about. In other words, your thoughts, positive or negative, determine your destiny.

Language is an external indicator of a manifestation of a thought. If you simply study and pay attention to the language that you Read More...
