Action Cures Fear

Tom WeberI had a phone call today that I was not looking forward to and I had thought of putting it off until “tomorrow”.  I had plenty of reasons why I could rationalize putting it off for another day, but I knew that the more I put it off the worse it was going to get.  So, I made the time, and made the call.

Going into the call I was expecting a battle.  The email that I had received beforehand was negative, accusatory, and disrespectful so I wasn’t excited to talk with this person.  Amazingly enough, 10 seconds into the call the person on the other end was not acting ANYTHING like I had imagined they would.

I realized that what they thought they were communicating in email was not what Read More...

Fear’s Best Friend and Worst Enemy – Your Imagination

Fear once had a very basic purpose-it ensured our survival as human beings. This intense, natural instinct is rarely necessary in our modern society today. Though you might feel panicked when you are running late or doing something for the first time, these situations can’t compare to what a cave-man must have felt when a saber tooth was about to eat him for lunch.

Fear is All About Imagination

We are incredibly creative, and have an outstanding ability to create fantastic scenarios in our minds. Our thoughts are so powerful that they can produce measurable physical responses within our body, even when there is no real danger.

When it comes to the pursuit of goals and dreams, Read More...

The fear response is part of our biological makeup to warn us of impending danger. Some fears serve as a necessary protector to keep us safe from harm; while other fears are merely road blocks to a peaceful fulfilling existence.

A healthy fear keeps you alert and motivated. For example, it is perfectly normal to have a fear of falling so you will not step out of the window of a ten-story building. Fear of disease will encourage you to live a healthier lifestyle, maybe quit Read More...

From Setback to Success Contest

Our failures and setbacks often will inform and lead us to our success. History is littered with amazing stories of individuals, teams and organizations that have had to overcome enormous obstacles and challenges on their path to eventual success.

A common thread in all of these stories, that begin with a setback or failure and in the end lead to success, is HOW the individual or organization viewed the setback. To them a failure wasn’t an excuse to give up on a goal or dream; it was a learning experience that caused them to be stronger and more determined to achieve greatness.

These setbacks to success stories are what inspire us to keep pursuing our dreams. They allow us to continue in the face Read More...

The Time is Now to Conquer Your Fears

I am a strong proponent of both learning from past experiences and of setting effective goals for the future, I encourage people to be cautious of losing the power of the moment they are in.

Many of our students frequently ask “How can I become more effective?” or “How can I improve how I feel throughout the day?” or “How do I remove stress from the situations that I am facing?” I believe the answers to those questions and most challenges people face can be found by focusing on the present moment.

All mental fears, whether that is stress, fear of failure, anxiety, worry, doubt, regret or others, result from focusing on events that have already Read More...

What Would You Do if You Weren’t Afraid?

Leah SimpsonWhat would you do it you weren’t afraid? It’s such an interesting question. So many times, we’re held back by fear.

In fact, I was just looking up phobias. Do you know that there are 98 phobias of things that start with just the letter “S”? And this isn’t even an official website. There were probably many that were missed on this list but I’ll give you a couple of my favorite “S” phobias.

The fear of string – I believe it’s pronounced li-no-no-pho-bia.

The fear of slime – (Oh, by the way, the fear of slime has two names) – blennophobia or myxophobia, whichever your preference.
