Top 10 Tips to Overcome Adversity and Achieve Your Goals

Overcome AdversityWho said this? “Never give up! Never give up! Never, ever give up!”

If you answered “Winston Churchill”, you would be correct! Thank goodness, there were men like him in the day when the world needed them most.

His message, of course, was related to World War II, but its implications for our lives are profound.

If a person gives up on his or her dream, all that will surely follow is sadness and depression. You need to team up with someone who will encourage you to “never, ever give up”. If you do not have a friend, parent, sibling, or spouse who fills this role for you as your biggest supporter, it can be very, very hard to persist.

In fact, those who should and could be Read More...

The Top 10 Goal Setting Tips

business-success2010 is here and it is now time to focus on what you want to accomplish in the New Year. If you haven’t set your goals yet…what are you waiting for!! This list is a great place to start. And if you have set your goals, this Top 10 List will give you a checklist to ensure you are set up for success.

1. The first step to goal setting is being specific!  Examine your life and figure out what you want to change, then narrow it down to one specific thing you can realistically change in a specific time period.

2. Once you have chosen your goal, write it down and post it where you will see it multiple times a day. A customized screen saver is a great way to keep your goal in front of you; a note on your fridge or taped to your TV Read More...

Finishing Stronger than You Thought You Could

Filed under: Goal Setting — Tags: , — Tom Weber @ 8:17 am

Tom WeberA couple of months ago, my wife Peggy and I went to New York to run a Half-Marathon with our friend Meredith. It was an amazing run on a cloudy September morning in Central Park. The entire night before it had rained and we prepared for a wet run, and luckily the rain stopped before the race started and held off until we were walking home afterwards but needless to say it was HUMID throughout the race.

And for anyone who hasn’t been to Central Park it is a lot hillier than you might think, I don’t remember many flat stretches on the entire run. So, if you add up these elements the race was a little tougher than we had thought it might be that day AND besides all of that Peggy had just discovered she was Read More...

Free Resource: How to stickK to Your Commitments and Goals

We just found a super cool (and free) website/service that increases your accountability to your goals and commitments by allowing you to put a “contract” on yourself.

The website is www.stickK.com and it is free to use.

You make a “Commitment Contract” with yourself and set the stakes as to what happens when you miss a check-in or your goal.

The Commitment Contract concept is based on two well known principles of behavioral economics:

1.  People don’t always do what they claim they want to do, and
2.  Incentives get people to do things

Here is how it works:

4 Steps to Create Sales Incentives to Hit Your Goals

Why wait for your manager to cook up contests, rewards and incentives? Keep your business fresh and exciting by creating your own fun and games.

If you are like me, you take great pride in being paid on commission and wouldn’t have it any other way. But sometimes, the regular commission plan is not enough to keep the old fire of desire red hot and ready.

Just as your muscles adapt to your regular training routine and need changing stimuli to keep up the training effect. The human psyche also adapts. So juice up your work with a little extra challenge.

Set up a short term contest for yourself. Just as some companies might offer a cash spiff or dinner and a show for hitting a sales quota, you Read More...

Performance Check Up (and a crazy guy movie)

So, I was amusing myself yesterday on my drive home from a sales call (I was up at 5:00 to get there on time which will explain the following wackiness) and I was contemplating what would be the components of the ultimate “guy” movie. (Trust me, I will tie this all together in the end.)

I found the components easy to list: Ninjas, a bank heist, monkeys, Clint Eastwood, the cast of Monty Python, Eddie Murphy (Beverly Hills Cop Eddie, not Dr. Doolittle Eddie), KIT from Nightrider, Teen Wolf, the cast of Oceans 11, a motorcycle gang with mullets, pirates, Mickey Rooney, Alec Baldwin, and Spuds McKenzie, with the Soundtrack written and performed by Metallica and 2PAC Read More...

Performing Confidently and Getting Results

There seems to be a polarization of emotions these days about the results people are getting.  Some people are feeling awesome with how the year is going, and others are feeling…well, crappy. There isn’t much in between.

Let’s learn from those who are feeling great. And if you’re on of those people, please keep reading because:

1. you can post great comments for everyone, and

2. if you don’t keep doing these things, you won’t be feeling great for very long!

People that are achieving the results they wanted to see, and are on track to hit their goals, are doing four things very well and doing them consistently.  They are:

1.  Read More...

Work Hard or Work Smart

You have heard your whole life that you should work really hard to get ahead in life or to achieve success. And most likely, you have also heard people talking about working smart to achieve their success.

So, the question becomes “Well, which one is it?” Because you’ve seen people put their heads down, keep their nose to the grindstone for 25 years, and work really really HARD, to end up not far from where they started. Conversely, you’ve also seen that guy in your office who continually is trying to work smart. He is always looking for a shortcut, scheming to find an easier way, looking for the magic bullet, spinning his wheels, and spending more energy on how to Read More...

Your Goal Setting Checklist – Making Sure You Accomplish What You Set Out to Do

A few years ago, I sat down at the end of August and set a new production goal for the rest of the year. Up until that point in time, my yearly goal was getting the better part of me instead of the other way around. Needless to say I was pretty far behind my yearly goal. Actually, it was less than 50% accomplished! To make matters worse, to come anywhere close to hitting that yearly production goal, a new company record would have to be set.

During a coaching session, my coach and I decided that if the goal was not providing any motivation, and acting more like a burden than something needed to be done. So what we decided to do was make a new goal for the rest of the year. Timing Read More...
