Working Smarter AND Harder (plus words of wisdom from Will Smith)

Eric PlantenbergUnderstanding the role that your talents and skills play in your career is foundational for your personal improvement.

In the realm of personal development, there is an incredible focus on working smarter not harder. While that is a concept that I have found incredibly valuable in countless scenarios in the past 20 years, I believe that it is only half of the equation.

What many people who are ‘selling’ the work smarter not harder ideology omit is that the AND principle can be found at the core of almost every Elite performance. What I mean by that Read More...

Healthy Ways to Think about your Past, Present and Future

Here is a good question for you to think about: If someone was going to write a report about the thoughts going through your mind, what would they say?

I ask you this because it is the number one question that you need to be asking yourself on a regular basis if you are going to experience freedom in your life. What are your thoughts all about?

I have found that the thoughts people entertain are the root causes of stress and what prevents them from experiencing all the freedom that they should have and deserve. People simply spend their time thinking about the wrong things. Here is what I mean:

You can either be thinking about the past, present or future.

Most people spend close to half their Read More...

Finding the Path of Success

For a moment, I’d like you to imagine that you are in a deep dark tropical jungle and you are completely lost. You are not quite sure which way is North, South, East or West. You can’t see the sun because the tree canopy above is so thick, which also means that you can’t see any of the mountains that you have been trying to find.

Suddenly, in the distance you hear a small group of friendly voices and the sounds of machetes chopping through the thick undergrowth. Like any smart adventurer you head towards the sounds of those voices, hoping that they will be able to point you in the right direction or let you join them.

Unfortunately, as you don’t have a machete it is slow going for you get to where those voices Read More...

A Morning Routine to Get You EXCITED for Your Day

When I woke up this morning, I was so pumped and excited about my life, I just had to take a minute to share some of the techniques I use. These are things I have incorporated into my morning routine which has lead to a difference in my overall attitude and excitement for the day. My attitude was good before and now, with some modifications to my morning routine, my attitude is fabulously phenomenal!

So as soon as I wake up, I am pumping my fist or doing some type of hand motion saying how outstanding and great today is, such as, “I am grateful to be alive and have the abundance around me.” I look at my wife and she is usually sleeping still. She is so beautiful when she is sleeping. Sometimes she Read More...

Even the Best of the Best Have to Overcome Adversity

Roger SeipI had the privilege a few weeks ago of watching the most dominant team in recent sports memory- possibly the most dominant team in college sports history- play for the National Championship.

College women’s basketball may not be the gigantic national TV event that the men’s tournament is, but it’s the arena of the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team. If you haven’t paid attention to this team, you may want to.

In the last two years, this team is 78-0. That’s right, they’ve won seventy eight games in a row, including 2 National Championships…and their SMALLEST margin of victory over that stretch was a win by “only” 12 points.

To put this in perspective, it’s the second longest Read More...

To Exist is to Change

Leah SimpsonSpring is in the air and the flowers are getting ready to burst into bloom. This time of year reminds me of a quote:

To exist is to change, to change is to mature, and to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.

Think about the analogy of a flower’s bloom in regards to this quote.

Anything that is alive, including ourselves, cannot exist without changing. Life means changing. Like a flower that is growing, we appreciate the growing and changing plant as it matures and blooms.

Sometimes, when change is happening to us, such as a new job, a workout routine, a healthier diet, or learning a new skill, it can be painful, but Read More...
