5 Tips for Delivering a Presenation

Today I’m going to give you some very practical tips on how to actually deliver a presentation.

1.  I strongly suggest that you commit your presentation to memory. This frees up your hands, your eyes, and your whole body to send out your message to your audience. I don’t mean this to be a shameless plug for our memory training workshop, but if you have taken the workshop, you know how easy memorizing a presentation can be if you just know how. It’s well worth the effort in terms of the increased credibility and communicative power.

2.  I also suggest that you practice your presentation – a lot. If you really want to nail it down, plan to spend 20 hours of rehearsal for each hour of presentation – at a minimum. More if you can swing it. Practice out loud, and record yourself using audio or video. Have someone listen to you and make constructive suggestions. This will help you to eliminate any verbal tics or bad habits that will hinder your communication. The time you invest in rehearsal will definitely improve your delivery many fold.

3.  When you are in front of your audience, make extra effort to speak to individuals in the audience. Don’t just “make eye contact.” But actually engage people for a few seconds at a time. By talking to each person in the room, and you will draw them into your program and keep their attention.

4.  Project your voice to the back of the room. You don’t have to shout, but you do need to make yourself heard.

5.  Finally, just be yourself. If you aren’t the kind of person to clown around and act goofy, then don’t. All you have to do is deliver your program with confidence, conviction and clarity. People will get your message, and they will respond appreciatively.
