<p><strong><em>Hold onto your goals lightly.</em></strong></p>
<p>That post inspired someone to ask the questions.</p>
<p>“Could you elaborate? <strong>Doesn&#8217;t this go against that whole &#8216;magnificent obsession&#8217; thing that Napoleon Hill describes?”</strong></p>
<p>I love these questions and remain amazed and grateful for how freely we can all share thoughts and questions now.</p>
<p>To answer the second question directly.  No.  That’s not my experience at all.</p>
<p>I love when i have a ‘magnificent obsession’ burning inside of me.  Holding onto a goal lightly and having a ‘magnificent obsession’ complement each other in a perfect way.  In fact, i believe <strong>you can’t really have a ‘magnificent’ obsession without holding onto goals lightly.</strong></p>

<p>A friend of mine is a landscape architect. He talks about Bradford Pear trees with great disdain because they are such a popular choice in landscaping, and yet they are weak trees. Although they look pretty, due to their poor roots and thin branches, they deteriorate in about 20 years if they do not toppled in a windstorm sooner. Storms do not strengthen the Bradford Pear tree, they destroys it.</p>
<p>However, many other varieties of trees actually strengthen in storms.
